A huge day for me going with my dad to see the girls in royal blue play for the first since the Covid Pandemic. It was great going back to St Andrews and finally supporting the girls and the majority of the game I was impressed. There is still work to do especially in the defensive area where we currently have a centre midfield playing as a Centre back. This is due to injuries to Borne and Harris respectfully. There is huge amount to be happy about at the moment with the whole squad playing with passion and commitment, which is what all blues fans want. I was also happy with the quality of play with and without the ball, fair to say I was impressed with today.

Blues started well passing the ball around with ease and looking comfortable with and without the ball.

Blues first chance come in the 10th minute when ex Coventry United player Mollie Green hit the bar from a free kick. Three minutes later Blues took the lead with the brilliant Jade Pennock who won the ball high up the park and showed composure to slot past the Coventry united goalkeeper Jodie Whiteman, it was what blues deserve.

Then it was 2-0 in the 19th minute when captain fantastic Louise Quinn gets her head on it from a great ball from Mollie Green from a corner. Blues were on top playing some great football and it could have been a third when smith set up Pennock for her second of the game, but it was comfortable saved from Jodie Whitman.

HALF TIME BLUES 2-O COVENTRY UNITED

In the second half Blues started of the same when Charlie Devlin shot was saved from Whiteman in the 46th minute.

Darren made a change when Ashley Hodson came on for the very impressive Charlie Devlin in the 56th minute and three minutes later she got her name on the score sheet. The ball was played low into the middle of the goal, Libby Smith tried to get the connection, but it landed to Ashley’s feet, she trucked it home from close range.

Blues 3-0 up and it could have been 4-0 when Libby Smith played it to Jade Pennock her shot though smashed of the crossbar.

As with Blues there is always something that makes us uneasily, when substitute Mary McAteer who was really impressive kept her composure and passed pass Lucy Thomas to score and it was game on.

Then it was blues turn when substitute Lucy Quinn cuts in to shoot just over the bar in the 84th minute

Coventry scored a second in the 89th minute when Mollie Green scored an own goal, but Blues hung on to get a much important win after last week’s disappointing defeat to Charlton.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME

There is a lot of positives in this game but there is one thing that I’m worried about and that’s the defence. Like last week playing Green in that position was crucial. We need Bourne and Harris back in that squad asap to help our defence, but that is the only criticism of the game.

My player of the match was Charlie Devlin who was very composed on the ball, made some great runs and couldn’t got on the scoresheet herself. I am happy for jade to get her goal tally off and running and she played really well. I award her my second player of the game.
