A Dream Start but a nightmare finish

BCFC Ladies on Tilton Talk, Sponsored by Garrison Coffee Company

A fantastic game but yet again blues collapsed. It started so well with Gemma Lawley getting on the end of a brilliant Lucy Quinn header for her first blues goal. 3 mins in and things looked rosie. Things continued with Blues in control and they looked good defending from Readings corners. Sarri who looked brilliant yet again had a great cross defended well by Reading in the 20th minute the ball dropped to Rebecca Hollyway who’s attempt went just wide of the goal.

Blues doubled the lead in the 35th minute after a beautiful Libby Smith pass was controlled by Jade Pennock before she bravely slotted the ball past the Reading Keeper. It was just after the goal when Grace Maloney was stretched off and our thoughts are with her.

As the 1st Half drew to a close the ladies couldn’t hang on to their clean sheet. Justine Vanhaevermaet scored in first half injury time so Reading heads were High as the half came to a close. The second half started at great pace Natasha Dowie scored from the spot for Reading, this gave added incentive to the Reading team and before we knew it the third was scored. Emma Harries beautiful goal meant that the team had gone from leading to losing in just 10 minutes. The ladies continued to push and Lucy Quinn came close from a free kick hitting the outside of the post.

What do we need to do next ?

I believe we will still go in for another CB to help Gemma and Louise, I would try to go for someone like Rachel Corsie who was on loan to us in the first part of least season. I believe we should also look for another striker with WSL experience lp with further options.

Altough it was a disappointing a result I was delighted with some of the passing. Libby Smith and Jade Pennock’s pressing in the first half was brilliant. My main concern is the the defensive situation. If we can get a couple of faces in before Friday’s deadline then it will be a lift before the game against the foxes in a fortnights time .
