Blues are through to the fifth round of the Women’s F.A Cup after beating WSL side Everton at Walton Hall Park this afternoon. A gutsy performance from the girls in royal blue helped to see off quality opposition. It was also congratulations to Abbi Jenner who made her first start for the club which was a big moment for her and the family.

FIRST HALF

Blues had the first chance of the game when Jenner released Claudia Walker on the left hand side, she cut in and her shot was saved comfortably from Courtney Brosnan in the 2nd minute.

Then it was Everton’s turn to have a attack through in my opinion the player of the match Agnes Beever-Jones. She played in Nicoline Sorensen on the right hand side and her ball was played into the box but wad cleared by the blues defence in the 10th minute. Then it was the dangerous Agnes Beever-Jones who found Jessica Park but her effort was saved from Thomas.

Lucy Thomas again saved to keep things equal in the 24th minute after another shot from Agnes-Beever Jones.

In the 29th minute the breakthrough for Everton almost came however a shot from Jessica Park came back off the post.

Everton continued to be on top and the next chance was from a freekick when Agnes Beever Jones that was brilliantly saved by Thomas in the 35th minute.

The last chance of the half was to also for the hosts. A loose pass was latched onto by Lucy Hope however her shot was deflected wide of the net.

SECOND HALF

The first chance of the second half was again for the hosts, it was again fromAgnes-Beever Jones. Her shot from close range hit the post in the 51st minute. This was quickly followed up with a shot by Jones but the shot went wide.

Then the breakthrough came for the blues when Jade Pennock kept her composure and found the net in the 61st minute . straight away Everton came with a immediate response when the talented defender Elise Stenevik found Aurora Galli, she laid the ball off to Park but her shot was yet again saved by Thomas.

In the 72nd minute Blues could have doubled the lead when Lucy Quinn shot from range went just over the bar.

The toffees almost got the equalizer 15 minutes before time when Elise Stenevik played the ball into the box, it hit a blues player and looked like it was going over the line but some brilliant reactions from Lucy Thomas kept it 0-1 .

MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME

Blues took the win with a smash and grab but who cares. It was an improvement on the previous weeks game against the black cats. This was a much better performance defensively and the group hung on in their to get us in the hat. It was also great to see another debutant with Abbi Jenni getting her first start.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH

I don’t usually go for someone from the losing side but I have to go for Agnes-Beever Jones she was really brilliant today her play was amazing the only she didn’t get was the finish .

Also I have to give credit to Lucy Thomas with some of her saves to keep us in the game.

Up next back to the league with a away trip to Lewes next Sunday.
