Blues stop the Seagulls flying

Garrison Coffee Company sponsors Tilton Talk Shows BCFC Womens reports

Blues go into the international break with a great performance against WSL side Brighton in the Conti Cup with a 3-2 win. It was the return of Blues favourite Veatriki Sarri whose last game for Blues was when she scored the winner against Aston Villa.

Brighton had the first chance of the game when Lee Guim-Min shot went over the bar in the 4th minute. Blues first chance came with Christie’s Murray shot was saved comfortable from Megan Walsh in the 7th minute. Blues took the lead in the 25th minute when Jade Pennock played it to Smith who shot first was saved by Walsh but fired in the rebound to make it 1-0.

Blues almost made it two in the 36th minute when Smith played in Pennock but her shot was straight at Walsh.

HT Blues 1 Brighton 0

In the second half Blues made it 2-0 when the brilliant Jamie Finn did some great work down the left-hand side and played it to Pennock who volleyed it into the back of the net to make it two goals in two games for her in the 57th minute.

Almost a minute later Brighton got one back with Lee Guin-Min and yet again it was game on.

Then three minutes later it was the Blues fans turn to celebrate when Jade Pennock was played down the left-hand side. She then played it to Lucy Quinn and slotted it into the bottom corner to make it 3-1 in the 61st minute.

But yet again Blues never make it easy for us fans Brighton were given a late penalty in the 88th and Danielle Carter with her quality scored pass Lucy Thomas.

FT Blues 3 Brighton 2

Positive’s – Three different scorers great to see Libby Smith getting on the score sheet and yes, I stand by my word she will be competing for the golden boot by the end of the season when she gets that first one in the league she be up on running.  Lucy Quinn first start of the season is another positive and getting on the score sheet to. I want to see her getting more starts for us but is a great weapon to get off the bench. Jade getting two goals in two games is another positive for blues.

Negatives yet again being comfortable and letting the team back into it like Coventry. We need to stop doing it because we can’t keep on scoring three goals a game to win a match hopefully Tara Bourne will be back in the squad after the international break.

Let’s wish Martha Harris a speedy recover after having a successful surgery and will be back in the new year.

Blues next game will be on a Monday night at 19:00 away at Southampton I will keep you updated on the Tilton Talk Show with texts, until then KRO.
