Blues through to the quarter finals

Garrison Coffee Company sponsor Tilton Talks coverage of BCFC Women

Blues left it to the 101 minute to get past a determined Charlton Athletic side amd get themselves through to the quarter finals of the Women’s F.A Cup. Super sub Ashley Hodson was cool and calm to place it past Sian Rodgers to get us back on track after the disappointment of losing against high flyer’s London City Lionesses a fortnight ago .

FIRST HALF

Charlton started off the better of the two teams and had the first chance of the game in the 9th minute when Bethan Roe played a great ball to Kiera Skeels but Blues goalkeeper Lucy Thomas gathered it up .

Blues first chance of the game came in the 15thminute when Jamie Finn pounced on a loose ball from Charlton and her shot flashed across the face of the goal.

Then three minute’s later blues had another chance of going in front when Lucy Quinn ball find the inform Jade Pennock but her shot was saved easily by Sian Rogers.

It was the turn of Charlton when Angela Addison broke into the blues box and forced a great save from Lucy Thomas in the 18th minute.

Charlton were growing into the game and should have made 1-0 in the 19 minute when former Bluenose Emily Simpkins strike from close range went over the bar.

Charlton again almost took the lead in the 31stminute  when Melissa Johnson went down the wing then picked out a really good crossed into Bethan Roe but she couldn’t get any connection onto it.

SECOND HALF

Blues started of the better in the second half with Siobhan Wilson’s corner causing a goalmouth scramble in the Charlton box before Rodgers gathered it up in the 48th minute.

Then it was Charlton’s turn to attacked with a freekick from Kiera Skeels but her strike went over the bar in the 57th minute.

Then it was the turn of Mia Ross with her shot just outside the area but it fly’s across the face of goal in the 63rd minute .

Charlton should have taken the lead through a former bluenose when Emma Follis’s strike rattled the crossbar in the 70thminute. Charlton had another chance when Mia Ross with a half-volley was gathered up easily from Lucy Thomas in the 80th minute .

Blues could have nicked it in the 89th minute when Jamie Finn’s volleyed was held from Rodgers and then Charlie Devlin shot was fired wide.

EXTRA TIME

Blues had a chance in the 97th minute when Louise Quinn’s knocked down found Harriett Scott but she couldn’t find the back of the net.

Then finally in the 101st minute the breakthrough came for the girls in royal blue when Ashley Hodson passed her full back and then droved into the box and coolly pass it pass Sian Rodgers  to make 0-1 for Blues.

In the second half in extra half the was nothing to report .

MY THOUGHTS

After the disappointment of losing to the London City Lionesses before the international break, this was a big boost for the girls in royal blue and also making things right after are 3-0 loss to Charlton in September. This was a gutsy performance just like the last round against Everton. We dug in to get a result , hopefully now we can see the best of the girls as we enter the last stretch of the season. Its going to be difficult but I believe in this bunch of players and their make me proud to be a blues fan.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH

I have to go for Ashley Hodson for getting the winning goal  in my opinion  she’s a breath of fresh air when she comes onto the pitch just like what she did against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in January and in my opinion should be starting a lot of the games this season  well done to her and the team for getting through to the Quarter Finals of the F.A Cup hopefully this the kickstart we need to challenge for the title.

Next up we play Blackburn Rovers at St Andrews. This game will also celebrate more of the great work completed by the #hergametoo movement. If you can make it then please come and support the women in Royal Blue. It’s a 2pm kick off so let’s help make it loud and proud
