Guest for 29th March

On 29th March Tilton Talk continues on its run of bringing you the guests that you have asked for. We are bringing you a true Brummie both as a player and fan and our 1st Lady on the Leighton Webster Fan Cam.

Our Player guest is the one and only Kevin Francis. Kevin was Born 6th December 1967 and started his career at Mile Oak Rovers before making over 380 football league appearances scoring 153 goals. Kevin once also held the record for being the tallest footballer in the football league

In January 1995, Kevin got his dream move to Birmingham signing for Barry Fry for £800’000. Big Kev went on to play 94 games and score 21 goals. Kevin’s honours include winning promotion from the old Second division and winning the Football League trophy in the same season. One of Kevin’s most memorable goals in a Blues shirt was against Leeds United in the league cup semi final. Most fans say it was his best ever goal with a thunderbolt from 25 yards into the old Railway stand. The remainder of Kevin’s stay at Blues was blighted by injury before he went on to move to Oxford United in 1998.

Kevin’s playing career came to an end at Studley after spells at Hednesford Town and Redditch United.

After his footballing career ended, Kevin took on a totally different role as a police officer in Calgary.

Leighton Webster Fan Cam

This week we welcome our first lady to the Leighton Webster Fan Cam. Linda Magner joins us to discuss her time as a Blues fan and what she is now doing to support the Blues trust

I remember my first game, Dad took us to Blackpool Illuminations on the same day Birmingham were playing there. Dad said he was going to watch the game whilst we played on the beach. I pestered to go with him I remember seeing so many people in one place, the noise we made, and my disappointment when we lost 0-1.

That was the start of the bug as the following week I went to the next game against  Middlesborough. We thrashed them a brilliant 6-1 with goals from Pickering (2), Vincent, Vowden and Bridges (2).

We have also asked Linda to tell us about her favourite game, player and manager along with the most important question: flavour of pie!

I loved Barry Bridges he scored some cracking goals and as a fairly young child he had bandy legs so I could recognise him easily on the field. I was in the Trevor Hockey fan club though. He was a handsome chap. He released a single too.

Stan Cullis was the manager when I started following blues he came out of retirement to manage us. Freddie Goodwin took over he was good too, that could change now though as Bowyer is starting off on the right foot. Garry Monk is up there too.

My Favourite game was the 5th round FA Cup replay against Arsenal we won 2-1 in-front of 51,536. The place was rocking and Bridges scored both goals.

My favourite pie is any flavour as long as they are made by Pukka 🙂

Tell us about the Blues Trust

Linda now has an active involvement with the Blues Trust so we have asked about what she completes.

I cant stay quiet and had to have my say at last years Blues Trust AGM. I was approached following the meeting to go on the board of Blues Trust. My feelings are strong that our beloved club is in decline and I couldn’t sit back without trying to do something. After being impressed with getting the ground recognised as an asset of community value, plus knowing they would be there should BCFC ever go into administration, I wanted to charge my energy into helping.

I am Membership Lead and for a most important organisation, we have very few paid up members. At £5 a year or £20 for 5 years its a bargain. My aim is to double the membership in a year.. Go on then Join!
