Monday’s guests

On Monday we have an ex Goalkeeper who played between 1978 and 1984 making 94 appearances and a fan who shares his name with Mr Apple 🙂

Player Guest

Our guest this week made over 500 appearances professionally and during that time for 5 clubs. Born in Tamworth on 19th May 1961 Tony Coton started his career at Mile Oak Rovers and then went on to sign professionally for Birmingham. At the age of 19, Tony made his debut against Sunderland in the old first division and what a start with a penalty save after just 54 seconds. Tony went onto become a regular and achieved player of the year at the end of the 82/83 season. The following season Blues were relegated and Tony was sold for ÂŁ300k to Watford.

During his stay at Watford, Tony won player of the season awards on three consecutive occasions and despite relegation at the club went on to win further awards. Tony also went on to become the 2nd player to be inducted into Watford’s Hall of fame.

The 1990/91 season saw Tony make the switch across from Man City joining Man United for ÂŁ500k which was a record fee between the two clubs. After just 6 months at the club Tony went on to sign for his final playing club Sunderland. Tony’s career was ended after breaking his leg in 5 places in a game against Southampton.

After his playing career Tony went on to become the Goalkeeping coach at Manchester United and a players agent before moving into a scouting role.

Leighton Webster Fan cam

This week our fan cam guest is Steve Job ( Pronounced Jobe). As with all guests we asked Steve about his time as a fan.

First game ?

Blues v Middlesbrough at St Andrews (Aug 1978, Lost 3-1)  As an 8 year old lad I remember walking up the steps to the Main Stand, Block A, Row J with the unmistakable smells of Bovril & cigars! đŸ™‚

Keith Bertschin scored our goal. (I needed to look that up!)

Favourite player ?

Frank Worthington. I only saw TF briefly, but Frank was my fist hero really. Such a good footballer who seemed to have the ball on a string, and could conjure up absolute brilliance.

Favourite Manager ?

Probably Jim Smith – gave the fans attacking football & it was just enjoyable to watch. Langan, Dennis, Todd, Curbishley, Dillon, Worthington..we had some flair.

Best Game as a fan ?

The obvious one was Feb 2011 đŸ™‚ However, as an alternative I’ll say the 3-0 over Villa in 2002. It had been a long time coming, and we well & truly regained the bragging rights that night. The atmosphere was electric too.

Favourite Pie ?

Chicken & Mushroom (old school!)

If you need an iPhone repairing speak to this man 🙂
