Birmingham avoided defeat on Friday for just the third time this WSL season, but their draw against Everton does little in their fight to avoid relegation.

In a game where you can see both sides where lacking in confidence up front the better chances were coming from the visitors. In the 11th minute  Leonie Maier (Everton Women) left footed shot from outside the box is high and wide to the left of the goal.

Then Everton legend Toni Duggan had a shot saved from Emily Ramsey comfortable in the 14th minute. Everton’s Duggan had another chance 3 minute’s later with a left footed shot close from the left side of the goal.

Blues had their first attempt in the 20th minute when Veatriki Sarri went on a brilliant run pulled it back to Libby Smith and it just went over .

You could see in the first half why Everton are staying up and blues are looking like they are going down. Some of Everton’s interplay was simply divine from former blues player Izzy Christiansen she loves being the Everton captain .

In the 44th minute Izzy Christiansen had a wonderful shot that was brilliantly saved by Emily Ramsey .

2nd Half

In the second half it was more of the same with alot of endeavour from both sides but the quality and more importantly ruthlessness wasn’t there. On the 50th minute Lucy Grahams (Everton Women) header from the centre of the box was too high from a cross from  Kenza Dali. Blues come back into it with Lucy Quinn having a shot from the right side of the box missing to the left.

Then back come Everton with Izzy shot high and wide in the 63rd minute. Blues kept plugging away when the mighty Louise Quinn had a header from the right side of the six yard box blocked from a cross from Christie Murray. Sarri had a shot then went high and wide following a corner.

Coming to the end you knew it was ending up in a draw however both sides wanted to win. Blues had two great chances, Libby Smith went closest but her shot and went pass the left hand post.

And in the 92nd minute Lucy Quinn could have won it for blues with her right footed shot but it was saved in the centre of the goal.

finally

Its a case of what could have been yet again. A good point stops the losing streak.

Ps good luck to Rebecca Holloway with her new club Racing Louisville, she has been a great  Servant to the club and I know she will do well back in the states.
