A gutsy performance but the class shone through

BCFC Ladies updates – Sponsored by Garrison Coffee Company

It looks like its all over for blues in the WSL after another loss against spurs who were too powerful in the end. I’m worried about the future of this great club but then again not surprised given the close scrapes that we have had over the past few years.

Blues only had one meaningful attempt from Sarri yet again who I believe will be playing in the WSL next season. Spurs looked not one but two classes above us on the day and showed in the possession and attacking stats.

The 1st half passed with Spurs always appearing to be in second gear but the ladies held firm and 0-0 was the outcome.

The second 45 began at pace and in the 53rd minute former Blues legend Rachel William’s header from close range just missed the left post and this was not the first warning shot.

On 66 minutes the deadlock was broken from the brilliant Ashleigh Neville from close range shot. Spurs went on to capitalize on the weakness shown by blues and in the 68th minute Spurs again came close to doubling their lead but an excellent save by Ramsey saved from Evelina Summanen header kept the game within touching distance. Spurs continued to pile on the pressure and again Williams had a header saved from the centre of the box in the 70th minute. On 82 minutes another former blues legend Kerry’s Harrop had her attempt again saved by Ramsey .

The pressure continued to build and the killer second goal game from Ria Percival when her left footed shot from the right side of the six yard box nestled in the bottom left hand corner. The game ended 0-2 and despite all of the efforts of the ladies another defeat, the league does not make good reading with the Blues now adrift at the bottom but coach Darren Carter has instilled a never say never mentality and I know the ladies will continue to fight

The season is now nearly at an end

Now we have to catch Everton although I don’t think we will with the quality in their squad but I hope im proven wrong. Some of the blame goes into the board for not strengthening in the window whilst othere did. Will the board back the club in the Championship or will they think we are going to walk that league. I hope for the later after-all teams like Sunderland, Palace, Durham (who play in the cup) and Charlton all are trying to get up and without backing it will be hard to see how we can match them.
