A LILY AGG STRIKE BLUNTS THE BLADES INFRONT OF A RECORD ATTENDANCE IN AMYS FIRST GAME

A Lily Agg strike, just before half time got Blues the three points Sunday afternoon at St Andrews @knighthead Park in Amy Merricks first game in charge. Blues had to thank Lucy Thomas with an outstanding save in the 70th minute to deny Alanta Brown with a shot which was tipped wonderfully on to the crossbar.

The thing that all of us Blues fans wanted was a big crowd and we broke the record with 3,101 in Amy’s first game . Now we have to build on it and keep that number growing for next season.

FIRST HALF

The first chance of the game came for Blues with top goal scorer Libby Smith, but both the chances were cleared by the Sheffield United defense for corners in the fifth minute.

It was Smith again in the 19th minute who came so close for the girls in blue when her curled shot rebounded of the crossbar.

The next chance was in the 26th minute with Libby Smith again but this time it was saved from former Blues goalkeeper Fran Stenson.

Then in the 45th minute the breakthrough came when Rebecca Holloway lofted a ball which was controlled brilliantly from Agg and placed it past Stenson to make it 1-0.

HALF TIME BLUES 1-0 SHEFFIELD UNITED

SECOND HALF

The first chance of the second half came when Smith capitalised on a loose back pass by Sheffield United, but Stenson recovered really well also Yuri shot was easily saved from Stenson in the 60th minute.

Then in the 68th minute a Jodie Hutton free kick was whipped into the box it fell to Molly Graham who tried to turn it back, but Thomas gathered it up.

Two minutes later a world class saved from Lucy Thomas to deny Sheffield United an equalizer when an Alanta Brown effort was tipped onto the bar from LT truly outstanding.

In the 85th minute a huge chance for the visitors when Molly Graham header went past the post from a Jodie Hutton corner .

The last chance of the game came for the Blues when Cho should have put the game to bed but a brilliant save from Stenson kept it to 1-0 Blues and that’s how it ended .

MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME

A great start to the Amy Merricks reign but there is a lot of work to we need to be ruthlessness which we need to be working on during the summer and this is the reason I think Amy has been brought into the club she has done a masterclass for the Sussex country F.A and her Masterclass was finishing in the final third which has been a big weakness for us this season I know super Jade Pennock has been injured but with a strikeforce like ours we should be hurting sides more in this league. That said it was great to see us grinding out the result because if we want to get out of this league, we need to be strong at both ends help Amy in the summer and we can be a force to be reckoned with . The big positive of the day was the record-breaking crowd at St Andrews which I been saying in the blogs for years a brilliant 3,101 turned up sunday which was amazing and the players loved it we need to build on it for next season .

MY PLAYER OF THE MATCH

There are so many with Neve, Lucy Thomas’s brilliant save but I have to go for Lily Agg for that goal for her control was brilliant and cooler past the ball pass Fran Stenson to make it 1-0 her performances this second half of the season have been outstanding and needs to be rewarded with a new contact well done Lily.
