A POINT A PIECE AT THE PAN

A disappointing result Sunday at the dripping pan has Blues got off the points mark with a 0-0 draw against a much better and organised Lewes F.C team. I know we have injuries but there is no excuse, we should be getting at least a win in our first three games and only scoring one goal with the front line we have is worrying. We also wish Neve Herron all the best has she had to come of early hopefully it’s not too bad and will be back next Sunday for the visit of Charlton .

FIRST HALF

Lewes started off the better having a couple of corners in the first five minutes of the game but they were cleared by Blues.

The first real chance of the first came for the hosts when another corner came into the box and Kate Mooney headed it over the bar in the 13th minute.

Blues first chance came a minute later when Claudia Walker almost got onto a missed place pass from goalkeeper Sophie Whitehouse, but her effort was blocked. The rebound fell to Jade Pennock, but her effort went just wide .

The next chance came for Lewes just before half time with Maria Farrugia bursting forward. She played it to Caragh Hamilton who placed her shot inches passed the post should have been 1-0.

But in the 49th minute Blues should have taken the lead. Jamie Finn went down the right-hand side and her cut back found Jade Pennock, but her shot was saved well by Whitehouse.

HALF TIME LEWES 0-0 BLUES

SECOND HALF

Blues started off the second half better, a brilliant ball from Christie Harrison-Murray just evaded Jamie Finn’s head at the back post.

In the 56th minute Lewes had a chance when Hollie Oldings deflected shot found its way to Anna Grey who struck then all well only for her effort to be saved by Thomas.

Lewes again had a chance in the 63rd minute, Maria Farrugia’s fine strike was tipped it over the bar.

In the 68th minute blues were reduced to 10 when Katie Dungate was sent off for a second yellow card. This was quickly followed by a red card for Lewes when Caragh Hamilton was dismissed that also resulted in their manager getting a yellow for decent.

We had to wait to the 82nd minute when Quinny turned but her shot was blocked from Rhian Cleverly . In the 91st minute Blues could have got the winner from former Lewes player Ellie Mason had a great run and shot but it was brilliantly saved by Sophie Whitehouse.

FULL TIME LEWES 0-0 BLUES

MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME

A point that Lewes deserved more than Blues. They created the much better chances and were lucky not to get the three, thank god for Lucy Thomas.

Both Thomas and Whitehouse worked hard throughout the game and kept their teams in it.

Pennock came off without threatening to much, but I would still leave her on because her record in this league is ridiculous, We are also missing the experience of Harriett Scott. Don’t get me wrong we should be doing better on the pitch and the first three games has been really poor, but I do believe in this squad, they can’t become poor overnight and with the experience in this side I still believe in them. We just need a goal to come off someone’s backside or deflect and this should start our season.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH

I have to go for both Goalkeepers Lucy Thomas & Sophie Whitehouse their kept both their sides in the game so their fully deserved it,
