A RUTHLESSNESS IN FINISHING AS BRIGHTON BEAT THE BLUES

A Lesson in finishing Tuesday evening as Brighton scored two goals in two minutes and Fran Kirby three minutes from time rounded of the WSL’s quality against the championship side. Blues should be proud of themselves but once that first goal went in it didn’t like we were going to get back into.

Amy made nine changes from the lost to Durham with Oliwa Szperowska making her first start in goal Ellie Mason making her first appearance of the season and Martha Harris making her first start from injury has well has Ellie.

FIRST HALF

The only change of the first half came for the seagulls when a free kick was headed wide by Michelle Agyemang.

HALF TIME BIRMINGHAM CITY 0-0 BRIGHTON

SECOND HALF

The first chance of the second half come for Blues when Quinny played in Baker who shot was saved by  Loeck in the 50th minute.

Then in the 53rd minute Blues best chance of the game when Ellie Mason played in Quinny who race towards goal she pulled it back towards Harrison-Murray and her shot misses the top corner.

Blues needed to get in front to have any change of are successful opening in the League Cup but fifteen minutes when two goals in two minutes ended blues with any hope of victory the first was a header from Guro Bergsvand and the second was a brilliant free kick from Maisie Symonds who was dangerous all night .

And three minutes from time Fran Kirby rounded of a complete display for Dario Vidosic’s side.

FULL TIME BIRMINGHAM CITY 0-3 BRIGHTON

MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME

If we get back into the WSL, the investment has to be huge to give us a fighting chance. Don’t get me wrong the girls should be proud in parts in defensive structure and fighting for each other but the quality & more importantly the ruthlessness of Dario’s side is how far we are to compete in the top tenner of Women’s football on a plus side great to see starts for Martha Harris Ellie Mason back in the side after their injuries and also Louanne Worsey getting some time on the pitch.

MY PLAYER OF THE MATCH

Have to go for Maisie Symonds with that brilliant free kick.
