A TEGAN MCGOWEN STRIKE IS MORE THEN ENOUGH TO BEAT A DISSAPOINTING BLUES

Blues are more than out of the Conti Cup a Tegan Mcgowen 35th minute strike gave The Addick’s a narrow 1-0 win, but it should not have been without the brilliance of Blues goalkeeper Charlotte Clarke the result would have been comfortable for the Addicks and yet again Karen Hills has got one over Coach Carts . Team News Darren Carter made a number of changes with a full debut for Cho So-Hyun also back in the squad were Christie Harrison-Murray Louise Quinn the return of Abbi Jenner and Ellie Mason.

FIRST HALF

The first chance of the game came to the host with Melissa Johnson’s cross is volleyed over by Freya Godfrey in the 15th minute.

Charlton thought their scored when Kiera Skeels put the ball in the back of the net, but it was called back for offside in the 23rd minute.

Then the breakthrough came for The Addicks with Beth Row who breaks down the right flank to find Tegan Mcgowan to make it 0-1 to Charlton in the 35th minute.

Blues came back into it straight away when Remi Allen passed it to Cho, but her shot was deflected for a corner in the 36th minute.

Then Charlote Clake was in the thick of the action again two minutes later when the dangerous Freya Godfrey took a shot from close range, but it was well saved form Clarke in the 38th minute.

The last chance of the first half came again for the host when again Godfrey made a brilliant run but her shot went for a corner.

SECOND HALF

The hosts had the first chance of the second half when Karin Maya hit a superb strike, but Charlotte Clarke did well to turn it away in the 48th minute.

Charlton were looking to finish this game and in the 53rd minute Charlotte Clarke was into action again when Godfrey cut inside with her left foot, but Clarke made another good save.

In the 66th minute Blues had their first chance of the second half when Jamie Finn cross came into a dangerous area and Gray made a save .

FULL TIME CHARLTON 1-0 BLUES

MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME

Like I said Blues are more than out of the Conti Cup and play West Ham in the new year but the disappointing thing about tonight’s result we didn’t look like troubling the Charlton defence no shots on target on 4 shots in the game isn’t good enough especially the supporters that went down their tonight their want a little bit more than that . I thought we called have gone far in this competition at least the quarter finals but yet again we don’t get out of the group stages which is disappointing. Positives great to see Cho making her first appearance in a Blues shirt and Abbi Jenner back in the squad and of cause Charlotte Clarke who kept us in the game with some brilliant saves but that’s it.

MY PLAYER OF THE MATCH

For us Charlotte Clarke kept us in the game, and it could have been a comfortable night for the Addicks . For the hosts I have to go for Freya Godfrey she was outstanding tonight she was all over the pitch and should had have got on the scoresheet herself well done to her .

NEXT UP

The last game of 2023 and it will be a cracker against the Black Cats Sunderland away from home on the on the 17th of December at 14:00.
