An outstanding goalkeeping performance leads to a bore draw

Blues were left frustrated on Sunday afternoon by a very stubborn Blackburn Rovers side under Simon Parker. Rovers came and grabbed a point from St Andrews and a former Blues player came back to haunt us in former goalkeeper Alex Brooks. Some great saves especially towards the end of the game frustrated the women in blue. The game also came at a cost with Choe Yuri having to leave the field in the first half added to mounting injury list.

FIRST HALF

The first chance of the game came for blues in the 4th minute when Choe Yuri shot was tipped away.

In the 11th minute Lucy Quinn on two consecutive occasions hit the crossbar from a corner as the frustration grew.

Then in the 35th minute top goal scorer Libby Smith picked up the ball inside the area but fired wide of Alex Brooks’ far post.

SECOND HALF

The first chance of the second half came in the 58th minute when Smith’s shot was saved from Brooks and Rebecca Holloway’s cross was blocked.

Then in the 74th minute Jade Moore fired a low shot, but it was saved well from Brooks.

Five minutes from time Blues should have taken the lead when sub-Charlie Devlin shot was parried away by Brooks and she reacted well to keep Lily Agg out.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME

Blues needed to be ruthless today but yet again we were gun shy and yes people saying we haven’t played a game in a couple of weeks, but we got a squad that is equipped to deal with things like this also on the injury front . We are not being clinical enough and we are definitely missing Jade Pennock from the matchday squad, whilst she is not the prolific goal scorer that she was from last season but her work rate was unreal . On the positive side there is a few things to talk about the Her Game Too team were there doing a brilliant job as always. On the pitch Riya Mannu getting into the match day squad was a proud moment for her and the family. On the pitch big Lou being back after her dislocated shoulder was great and a first appearance back for Rebecca Holloway who did well .

MY PLAYER OF THE MATCH

Its a joint one for Blues Neve Herron she was superb defending and attacking and for Rovers the former bluenose goalkeeper Alex Brooks whose saves got Rovers the point.
