BLUES DRAW AGAINST THE BLACK CATS AS WE PAY TRIBUTE TO MADDY

Blues on Sunday afternoon drew against a really good Sunderland side who were tough to break down. Sunderland took the lead from Mary Mcateer in the 17th minute and we had to wait until 12 minutes from time when the Scottish Maestro Christie Harrison-Murray levelled it up . Blues should have won it we hit the woodwork on three separate occasions and some brilliant goalkeeping from Claudia Moan. We also paid tribute to the late Maddy Cusack on the 8th minute which was an emotion moment .

FIRST HALF

The Black Cats had the first opportunity of the game when a corner was delivered to the back post and found Natasha Fenton who headed it wide in the 7th minute .

In the 8th minute we paid tribute to the late Maddy Cusack with a minute’s applause an emotion moment .

Blues first chance of the game in the 14th minute when a Charlie Devlin strike was saved from Claudia Moan .

Three minutes later the visitors took the lead some really good play from Ejupi and Brown with a one two and Brown goes to the byline with a cross that found Mary Mcateer who placed it pass Lucy Thomas to make 0-1 to the black cats.

In the 22nd minute Jessica Brown brought the ball down fires it towards the goal, but it was cleared away from the Blues defence.

In the 32nd minute Blues Ellie Mason shot took a deflection and it hit the crossbar. Then two minutes later we hit the crossbar again this time it was Charlie Devlin’s free kick which was tipped onto the bar from Moan an unbelievable save.

In the fifth minute of stoppage time Charlie Devlin’s free kick hit the bar againfrom a free kick how unlucky can you get.

HALF TIME BLUES 0-1 SUNDERLAND

SECOND HALF

The visitors started of really well and in the 47th minute the Black Cats should have doubled the lead through Elizabeth Ejupi when she broke free and was one on one against Thomas but thankfully for us her effort went wide of the goal.

Then a minute later one of Blues subs Katie Dungate did some brilliant work and cut in. Her shot was brilliantly saved by Moan.

In the 64th blues had a corner which was defended well from the black cat’s defence, but Herron shot went over the bar.

Ejupi in the 70th minute went down the right-hand side and found Katie Kitching who’s shot was easily saved from Thomas .

The last chance of the game was the goal we were looking for some brilliant play from Dungate who cut it back for the Scottish Mastro Christie Harrison-Murray who fired it home passed Moan, the place erupted with joy and relief 12 minutes before the final whistle.

Both teams were looking for the winner, but nothing really happened .

FULL TIME BLUES 1-1 SUNDERLAND

MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME

Taking four points from the last two games against Southampton and now an undefeated Sunderland side is good progess but i think the girls know their wish. They should have taken all three points especially after hitting the crossbar on three occasions, a point from Mel Reay’s team is not bad going.

It was also an emotional day at St Andrews remembering the life of the late Maddy Cusack who sadly passed away a few weeks ago.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH

I have to go for the black cat’s goalkeeper Claudia Moan some of her saves were unbelievable
