BLUES LACK OF RUTHLESSNESS COST THEM AS DURHAM GET ALL THREE POINTS
Durham beat Blues this afternoon at Maiden Castle a Sarah Wilson brilliant header got the wildcats all three points yes, we had a lot of chances but how Durham defended was amazing clearing balls of the line defending like warriors and working for each other and deserved it. For Blues yet again are lack of ruthlessness cost us some of it is unfortunate but that’s why we will playing in the Championship and Crystal Palace are going to the WSL who got Elise Hughes & Annabel Blanchard who have got twenty-seven goals between them. And congratulations to Laura Kaminski in her first job gets the Eagles to the WSL a wonderful achievement by far the best team I have seen at St Andrews this season.
FIRST HALF
The first chance of the game came for Blues from a corner, but it was cleared away from Saoirse Noonan in the seventh minute.
The first attempt on goal came for Blues in the 10th minute when a Charlie Devlin corner was met by the head of Gemma Lawley, but it was comfortably saved from Tatina Saunders.
The next chance came in the 17th minute when Cho slipped in Libby Smith, but Tatina Saunders came out quickly to deny the forward.
The first chance for Durham came in the 21st minute when Mollie Lambert and Saoirse Noonan combined well and found Amy Andrews who turned on the edge of the box and curled it wide.
In the 25th minute Lily Agg could have got her sixth goal of the season when her shit was goal bound but a brilliant block from Sarah Wilson denied the Republic Of Ireland International .
Then in the 29th minute Blues had another chance when top goal scorer Libby Smith made space for herself, but her shot was saved from Saunders.
In the 37th minute Blues were so close to taking the lead when Yuri cross was met by Louise Quinn whose effort was of the post.
Then a minute later Durham hit Blues on the counter attack when Amy Andrews finds Grace Ayre whose shot was held by Lucy Thomas.
Then the last chance of the half came when Lily Agg shot was denied off the line brilliantly from Grace Ayre.
HALF TIME DURHAM 0-0 BLUES
SECOND HALF
The first chance of the second half came for Blues when their kept the second corner alive when Jade Pennock header was saved from Saunders in the 50th minute.
Then came the sucker punch, a corner came in for Durham and Sarah Wilson rises high and heads it into the top corner pass Lucy Thomas.
Then Lucy Thomas became the hero when Noonan does well who found Lily Crosthwaite and was brilliantly saved from Thomas in the 63rd minute.
Then again Blues should have capitalized when Lucy Quinn got hold of a back pass, but her effort went over the bar in the 67th minute.
In the 68th minute Neve Herron cross finds Pennock but her shot also goes over the bar.
Then in the 70th minute Blues hit the crossbar again when Lucy Quinn’s corner was headed on to the bar by Lily Agg.
Then in the 74th minute Durham should have put the game to bed when a brilliant ball from Lambert puts Andrew’s away, but Thomas does well to deny her.
The last chance of the game came in the 79th minute when Noonan nicked the ball of the Blues back line but was deny by Thomas yet again .
FULL TIME DURHAM 1-0 BLUES
MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME
Again, like I said early are lack of ruthlessness is what has cost us are place in the WSL we definitely got the players and experience to get us over the line it’s about the application of the team we got people like Matha Harris Charlie Devlin Libby Smith who have all been promoted to the WSL . And that’s the job Amy has got to do for next season to get them to believe that they are WSL players keeping the likes of Lily Agg Lucy Thomas on long term deals especially Agg who has been superb this season especially the second half and deserves to get her extension . I think there will be a few going out and also a few coming in to help Amy get the right blend to get us back up into the WSL . Also, I hope one that comes in is an out and out striker . We desperately need one of those.
MY PLAYER OF THE MATCH
I have to give it to Sarah Wilson for that brilliant header a goal to win any game.
