BLUES WOMEN V BRISTOL CITY WOMEN PREVIEW

Blues welcome Stephen Kirby’s Bristol City side for the first home game of 2025 and its going to be a cracker. The Robins are currently sit in third place and if their win will be on the same points as Blues, so it is a key game for Amy and the girls. Blues started off the year with some devastating news that supporter’s player of the season and top goal scorer from last season Lily Agg will be out for the rest of the season will a torn ACL. Lily has been such a huge success since she came to Blues from London City Lionesses and became a fan favourite instantly . We just hope we will see Lily again before the end of the season hopefully holding the Championship title. But on a positive Jamie Finn is getting closer back into the matchday squad .
MATCH PREVIEW
Stephen Kirby will be looking for a reaction for his girls after losing to another title contender on Sunday losing to London City Lionesses with Megan Campbell getting the goal in the sixty second minute and now are just a point behind the blues. Stephen Kirby has been really impressive since his appointment on the 19th of September to replaced Lauren Smith who went to work for the England Under-19s team. Kirby has guided city into a promotion contender with standout results against Newcastle with 10 players and a 5-0 win at Durham before the Christmas break. On Sunday whoever gets the first goal will be crucial and both defences need to be on their game. For Blues after a disappointing couple of games losing to Durham in the FA Cup and then a 0-0 draw against Charlton there have reacted after the Christmas break with a 1-3 win over Pompey with a first league start and first league goal for Ava Baker. It was also great to see another one of the goal scorers back in the starting line up in Ellie Mason with a great finish to make it 0-2 And of course the reliable Cho finishing it off to give Amy the three points. The only problem for Amy is who will be the one to replace the big void left behind of Lily Agg that’s if we don’t go for anyone in the transfer market. My two picks are Cho or Jamie Finn both got quality in the own ways hopefully we can bring in another player in before the window closes.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
The players to look out for are Lexi Lloyd-Smith who has scored seven goals and assist twice. My second will be Ffion Morgan who has got three goals this season and also three assists this season. And my third is Emily Syme who has got three goals and two assists.
LAST TIME WE MET
We played Bristol City twice this season are first encounter came on the 15th of September when we played them at Ashton Gate in the league where we got a hard-earned point drawing 0-0.
And the second was at the Robins High Performance Centre where we got are first points in the league cup beating the robins 1-3 goals from a fine strike from Lily Agg in the 10th minute and a brace from Simone Magill got Blues the win. Abi Harrison got the consolation goal who has now departed the robins to go up to Celtic.
