BLUES WOMEN V NEWCASTLE WOMEN PREVIEW
Blues welcome Becky Langley’s impressive Newcastle United side this Sunday to St Andrews for a 15:00 kick off for me will be the game of the weekend. This in my opinion will be the toughest test for Amy Merricks Blues side has Newcastle have brought and started well in the championship. Also, it will be great to see the technical battle off the pitch to with two young and talented coaches with Amy & Becky.
The Magpies like I said have started the campaign really well under Becky collecting eleven points in their first six games and still have a game in hand. There have brought in some real quality in the summer which there needed to do to compete in the Championship of them the standout signings are Claudia Moan from arch-rivals Sunderland Shania Hayles & Rachel Furness from recently relegated Bristol City and the standout signing for me was Demi Stokes from Manchester City.
LAST TIME OUT
For the visitors an entertaining but frustrating 3-3 draw with Charlton conceding in the 94th and then again in the 95th minute from Kayleigh Barton and Katie Bradley which must have been a sickener for the Magpies but there were down to ten players when Amber Keegan-Stobbs was sent off in the 83rd minute.
For Blues it was a great away day beating Remi Allen’s Southampton side 0-2 with goals for the first an own goal from Megan Collett in the 11th minute and then the returning Lily Agg finished the game of in the 50th minute. To leave Blues on top of the Barclays Championship going into the first International break.
PLAYERS TO LOOK OUT FOR
Shania Hayles has had a great start to the season being joint top goal scorer with five goals and one assist with a goal conversation of 26 percent but her shot accuracy is an impressive 76 percent. Also, her team mate at Bristol City who has joined her at Newcastle in Rachel Furness who gained promotion for the robins in her first season and always a tricky midfield. Also, another players we need to look out for is Demi Strokes and former Blues player Emma Kelly .
BLUES FEST
Like I said it’s a double header with the women in blue kicking off at 15:00 PM but before that the men play Sutton United in the FA Cup second round which will be broadcast on the big screens in the kop car park with entertainment with face painters music and food for both home and away fans which will be a lot of Newcastle Fans travelling down to see the Magpies we need you to support the Women in Blue to keep the momentum going for Amy and the girls see you there.
