BLUES WON A HARD FOUGHT BATTLE AGAINST THE BLACK CATS TO STAY TOP

Blues worked hard for it but they are still on top of the league. A third goal this season for Lee Geum-Min in the seventh minute got the blues all three points against Mel Reay’s hardworking black cats’ side and fought to the end to denie the blues the victory.  Also, you have to put into account that the black cats haven’t lost a game since October which makes this win even more impressive. Amy made four changes bringing into squad a first start in Blue for Shannon Cooke and the return of Lucy Quinn back into the starting line-up.

FIRST HALF

The first chance of the game was the opening goal when Christie Harrison-Murray played a ball for Simone Magill to chase on to wins it of the goalkeeper Lambourne finds Lee Geum-Min whose shot founds the back of the net to make it 0-1 for the girls in blue in the seventh minute.

Then in the eighteenth minute Lucy Quinn’s shot was comfortable saved by Lambourne.

Then in the 21st  minute a free kick to blues found Neve Herron outside the box whose shot went over the bar.

Then in the 22nd minute Sunderland’s first big chance of the game when Eleanor Dale was played through, but her shot was bravely saved from Lucy Thomas .  In the aftermath of that was substitute by Oliwia Szperkowska.

In the 45th minute a direct corner hit the post .

Then in the 51st minute Sunderland nearly equalized when a Natasha Fenton cross was headed by Brianna Westrup but a fantastic clearance of the line by Neve Herron kept it 0-1.

MY  THOUGHTS ON THE GAME

A brilliant display from the girls it’s not about performances at this point of the season it’s about the results and if you want to get out of the championship you need to so both sides of the game are quality yes you need it but also you have to so grit and determination like todays performance to get promoted and that’s what we missed in are previous seasons and I think that’s what has cost us getting promoted back into the WSL. It was great to see both of are new signings play today, and I think there will have a big say in us getting promoted but it won’t be easy. We need to transfer are away form into are home form after last week’s disappointing display against Bristol City and the games against Durham in the FA Cup and Charlton in the league before Christmas. We have seen it before at the beginning of the season beating are opponents’ today 5-0 with wins over Blackburn and Pompey playing some great football, we need to see that in are finally games at home if that happens there is every chance of returning to the topflight. It was great for Lee Geum-Min getting her third goal of the season today with a bit of luck, but we take it and with the ball she was great to. The only downside was the injury to Lucy Thomas in the 31st minute let’s hope it’s not serious has first thought. Also on that not we also we want to sent are thoughts to Jessie Stapleton who was concussed during the game and hope to see her back on the pitch soon for the blackcats.

MY PLAYER OF THE MATCH

I have to go for Rebecca Holloway in my opinion this was her best performance in a Birmingham City shirt especially in the first half driving down the wing causing havoc and delivering some great balls into the box i was so delighted that she returned back to Blues last season she always gives her all and I’m so delighted that we are seeing the best out of her in a blues shirt.
