BLUES WON A HARD FOUGHT BATTLE WITH LONDON CITY LIONESSES

Blues made it a magnificent seven wins Sunday afternoon at St Andrews with Cho So-Hyun wonder strike in the 7th minute getting the girls in Blue over the line. Yet again Blues showed their metal but on another day London City could have left St Andrews with a point.

FIRST HALF

The first chance of the game was the winning goal when Cho So-Hyun picked up the ball and she fired it into the top corner of the net past Hermione Cull in the 7th minute.

Then in the 16th minute London City almost got an equalizer when Tinaya Alexander shifted the ball onto her left foot and smashed the crossbar.

In the 24th minute Nicole Douglas got into the penalty area played it to Danielle Carter but Ellie Mason made a superb block that went for a corner.

The game then went quiet until the 41st minute when Blues should have made it two through Lily Agg. It could have made it two in two for the Ireland International when she came so close but she hit the crossbar and the rebound fell to Ellie Mason however her header was brilliantly tipped over by Hermione Cull a truly outstanding save.

The last chance of the first half was for the visitors when Carter shot was saved from Lucy Thomas .

SECOND HALF

The first chance of the second half was for the visitors when a really good corner routine  with Grace Neville and former Blues player Georgia Brougham who then found Leanne Cowan but her shot went wide.

Then in the 67th minute Blues were under pressure  again this time from London City’s Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah whose shot from long range was saved from Lucy Thomas.

The last chance of the game Fuso played Yuri through on goal with Lucy Quinn wide open but her shot hit the side netting.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME

Another Magnificent Seven for the girls and hopefully this time we will cross the line into the WSL  but there is so much hard work to do.
This team is what a Blues team is all about the endeavor commitment and desire of this squad is unbelievable. All of this was infront of the Blues owner Tom Wagner who met the girls before the game and talked about the vision for the women’s squad. It was great to see and with his investment he is seeing a team that is committed to get back into the WSL. Another tough game on the road next weekend against Watford who are making a fight of it beating Durham in a impressive victory for the hornets but this group is full of experience and that’s will make us get over the line.

MY PLAYER OF THE MATCH

I know I should go for Cho So-Hyun but I have to go for Choe Yuri her work rate was amazing, her close control was amazing and causing problems for the Lionesses defence well done Yuri.
