CHARLTON BEAT A LIMP BLUES TO GO INTO FOURTH

Karen Hills got the better of Darren Carter at The Valley against Blues who more than likely staying in the Championship the annoying thing is we didn’t look like a side that going for promotion we were really lethargic at times we played some decent stuff but at this time of the season it’s about winning games and Charlton Palace and Sunderland are miles ahead of us with coaches who are miles ahead of use and this is nothing against DC who i got so much respect for but if you want to get over the line you need experience and more importantly knowledge of the women’s game which the three clubs have.

FIRST HALF

The first chance of the game came for Charlton with a free kick over the bar in the 13th minute.

Blues had their first chance in the 15th minute when Neve Herron shot went over the bar.

Blues should have taken the lead when Herron found Agg whose shot was saved well from Gray .

Then a controversial moment from the corner when Herron put the ball back into the box and it lopped the ball over Gray, but the referee says there was a foul on Gray from Louise Quinn.

Then N Dow shot went just pass the post in the 22nd minute.

Then two minutes later The Addicks took the league after a huge mistake from Lucy Thomas was charged down from Karin Muya and put the ball into an empty net 1-0 .

Then in the 30th minute Blues almost got an equalizer when Louise Quinn headed it across goal, but Walker effort was blocked by the Charlton defense.

In the 34th minute Tegan McGowen shot was easily saved from Thomas.

In the 45th Charlton doubled the lead from a corner Freda Ayisi header was turned home by a combination of Blues players and fully deserved it.

The last chance of the half was a shot from Lily Agg that went for a corner.

SECOND HALF

The first chance of the second half came for Blues when Claudia Walker shot was saved from Gray for a corner.

The Walker had another attempt in the 58 minute but drift’s wide of the goal.

Then in the 62nd minute the Blues should have a least goal back when a crossed into box fall for Devlin but went over the bar.

Then in the 78th minute Blues were awarded a penalty when Jade Moore was brought down in the box and Lucy Quinn took the spot kick and placed it passed Gray.

Then in the 82nd minute Walker again had another shot, but it went high and wide.

Then in the 87th minute Charlton almost regained their two-goal lead when Melisa Filis hit a thunderbolt that hit the crossbar.

Then in the 92nd minute Katie Longhurst outrageously chipped Lucy Thomas to make 3-1 and are chance for promotion looks done and dusted .

FULL TIME CHARLTON 3-1 BLUES

MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME

Blues season looks like all but over and you can tell by the reaction of the players at the end of the game Blues need snookers to get back into the Promotion push . Charlton yet again get the better over us and Karen Hills is undefeated against Darren in the league with two wins and one draw . Blues started all right with Herron shot over the bar the big decision came in the 17th minute when Herron’s ball into the box and Jessica Gray was fumbled the ball into the back of the net but the ref gave a foul against Louise Quinn I thought it was really harsh but that wasn’t why we lost the game we lost because of two mistakes by are reliable GK Lucy Thomas the first she didn’t react well when the ball was played back to her after Charlie Devlin was receiving treatment  and fair play to Karin Muya who charged her down and created the opportunity herself and tapping it home. But the second one really annoyed me when LT just passed it to Katie Longhurst and chipped it over Lucy to make 3-1. I hope she bounces back from this, and I shall she will, but those mistakes could cost us Promotion it’s about the fine margins in this game.  Personally, I would put in Clarke for the reminding games of this season and give LT a rest .

MY PLAYER OF THE MATCH

I have to go for Jessica Gray I think her saves were brilliant, especially of Lily Agg’s strike in the first half she looked really comfortable and had a great game.
