GEMMAS BULLET HEADER GETS BLUES THEIR FIRST WIN OVER LONDON CITY LIONESSES

Blues at the third time of asking have got their first win over London City Lionesses. A Gemma Lawley header in the 4th minute got Blues all three points at Princes Park in a very feisty game where Emma Mukandi got sent off after kicking out at Choe Yu-Ri . Blues also missed a penalty in stoppage time when Lily Agg put her spot kick over the bar . London City were looking for their third win in a row under new boss and Italian Icon Carolina Morace, but Blues showed their Metal to get over the line with some great defending and like against Reading we ground out the result which was great to see.

The first chance of the game was the opening goal of the game when the Barclays Championship Player Of The Month Lucy Quinn got herself another assist. Lucy’s corner was powerfully head home from by one of our own Gemma Lawley in the 4th minute the perfect start for Darren Carter’s women.

In the 10th minute London City had a great opportunity when Pagie Satchell broke free but the Blues defence recovered well and her shot went over the bar.

In the 16th minute Lucy Quinn’s freekick was flicked wide by Lawley. In the 24th former Bluenose Connie Schofields header was deflected wide for a corner, The resulting corner came out to another former Bluenose Georgia Brougham whose volley was cleared Lily Agg.

London City were growing back into the game it was Maddi Wilde this time who had a shot but it was saved by Lucy Thomas in the 27th minute.

In the 35th minute Ellie Mason played the ball inside to the inform Libby Smith whose shot was gathered up from Grace Moloney. This was quickly followed by some great determination from the Captain Jade Moore got Blues on the attack and found Lucy Quinn but her effort went wide.

Quinny could had have another assist at the beginning of the second half when her corner was met by Ellie Mason, but it went wide in the 49th minute. Then it was Lucy Quinn’s turn to have a turn at goal with a free kick but it went so wide of the goal in the 53rd minute.

The first chance of the half for London City came from Lois Joel who hit a thunderbolt, but it was well blocked from Jade Moore in the 79th minute.

But a huge turning point came in the 90th minute when Emma Mukandi kicked out at Yuri for a certain red card.

Then even more problems for London City when the referee Laura Van Lier pointed to the spot in stoppage time, but Lily Agg put her spot kick over the bar.

Finally, DC has got his first win over London City Lionesses which will make him smile on his ride home to the midlands. We ground out the result and didn’t lose our heads when London City did which will please Darren as well. Four wins in a row, scoring 12 goals and conceding only 4 goals is an amazing record. We have got players who are fighting for the cause, Jade Moore and Lily Agg put their bodies on the line to get the three points it’s that commitment all Blues Fans want to see.

Only one person and for a change it’s not Lucy Quinn. Gemma Lawley with that important goal and are first win over London City Lionesses gets my vote. She has been immense and gives it all in a Blues shirt .

Next up is our final home league game of 2023 when we play Durham at St Andrews. It’s an early kick off time at 13:00 and we need to as many fans there supporting the women as possible and hopefully onto another 3 points.
