LONDON CITY LIONESSES V BIRMINGHAM CITY WOMEN PREVIEW
Blues travel down to Hayles Lane this Sunday afternoon to face second place London City Lionesses in a massive clash in the Barclays Championship Blues are still top of the Championship but only on goal difference and will be a battle against Jocelyn Precheur side. Blues needed to be at it for the whole 90 plus minutes not like on Sunday when we waited to the 25th minutes to get going everything needs to be spot on to get anything at the Lane.
LONDON CITY LIONESSES
During the short history which was founded in 2019 after its split from Millwall Lionesses the new ownership Michelle Kang who brought it from Anthony Culligan on the 15th of December 2023 and was what the Lionesses fans needed after some difficult times from last season fighting relegation until former Blues player Remi Allen came in and put them to safety with winning four out of her six games you would have thought Remi Allen would have got the job on a permeant basis but under the ownership of Kang she brought in former PSG coach Jocelyn Precheur on the 28th of June 2024 on a three year deal. Which tooked the world of women’s football by surprise not just off the pitch there have brought quality on it to with the standout signings including Sweden’s captain Kosovare Asllani and Swedish forward Sofia Jakobsson and also bringing in from the championships’ top goal scorer Isobel Goodwin from Sheffield United who scored 15 goals in 19 games which is really impressive. But is not about the signings the brought in it’s about the players there got to in former Blues players in Georgia Brougham & Connie Scofield and of course let’s not forget Ruesha Littlejohn. Its not about if its but when there are getting into the WSL hopefully its not this year.
LAST TIME OUT
For London City it was a 0-1 win over Sheffield United with Georgia Brougham getting the winning goal in the 84th minute to put them on the same level of points has us with a game in hand. A great start too the season for Jocelyn Precheur London City Lionesses team.
For Blues it was a disappointing 0-2 loss to Becky Langley’s Newcastle United side with goals from the inform and Barclays Championships top goal scorer in Shania Hayles in the 11th minute and then a first for the club for Isabella Sibley twenty minutes from time killed the game of and there fully deserve it in my opinion.
PLAYERS TO LOOK OUT FOR
There are plenty of players to choose from, but I gone for three in the top goal scorer for the Lionesses in Isobel Goodwin continuing from where she left off from last season scoring five goals with a goal conversation of 19 percent but a total number of shots of 26 this season. Also, the obvious in Sofia Jakobsson who has two goals already this season with her goal conversation of an impressive 50 percent. And also, Chantelle Boyle-Hlorkah who has also scored a brace this season. Are defence needs to be on top of their game up to keep these three quiet.
