A stalemate this afternoon at Ashton Gate but a decent game nevertheless. It was two teams going at it but sometimes the final ball wasn’t there like last week’s performance over Sunderland. Lucy Quinn was still up top, and Cho was made Captain this week. This game has to go to both defences this afternoon some of the defending from both sides was absolutely outstanding but when both teams got past the defence the two goalkeepers in Lucy Thomas & Fran Bentley were also outstanding.

FIRST HALF

The first chance of the game was when Ivanna Fuso shot went over the bar in the 13th minute.

Then in the 15th minute Blues could have taken the lead when a free kick was flicked on from Lily Agg and Mcgowen latched onto the ball a forced a great stop from Fran Bentley.

In the 16th minute former Blues player Jamie Lee-Napier almost caught Lucy Thomas of her line, but we cleared it away. Napier also had a volley that was cleared away in the 18th minute.

Bristol City came close in the 26th minute when Napier’s header was saved well by Thomas in the 26th minute.

SECOND HALF

In the 62nd minute the big moment of the game came when Abi Harrison fired the ball across the six-yard box, Emily Syme couldn’t get another of her flick then it felt to Amalie Thestrup who was certain to score, Rebecca Mckenna made a last gasp challenge and cleared the ball of the line.

Then in the 67th minute Blues best moment of the game when two off the new signings linked up. Ava Baker rolled the ball back to Mcgowen who then cut it onto her right foot and her shot was brilliantly saved from Fran Bentley.

Then in the 70th minute it was some last ditch defending from the hosts when Baker played a loose pass to Yuri, she was going to pull the trigger but some great defending from the Bristol City player saved a certain chance for Blues. In the 76th minute a Christie Harrison-Murray cross found Ava Baker, but her header went over the bar.

Then in the 82nd minute Jesse Wolley drive at the Birmingham defence but her shot just went over the bar.

The last chance of the game came for Blues when Lily Agg had a shot, but it was easily saved from Fran Bentley in the 93rd minute.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME

Like I said the game ends it in a stalemate but we have not conceded a goal in are first two games and we look solid . The back line of Lucy Thomas, Mckenna, Lawley, Herron & Rebecca Holloway is so immense even when Bristol City broke the back line the pace of the back line is amazing it so’s how fit the area since pre-season.  Also, both goalkeepers were outstanding there didn’t had a lot to but when there were called upon some of the saves were great especially Fran Bentley’s save from Tegan Mcgowen was outstanding. But at the end of the day, it was a fair result, and we move onto Portsmouth next Sunday to keep the momentum going.

MY PLAYER OF THE MATCH

It has to go to Rebecca Mckenna for getting us that point after her last ditch challenged from on Westrup to clear the ball of the line . And the end of the game Louise Quinn went up to her and gave her a hug you can see the togetherness of the team.
