Blues play their first WSL2 game of 2026 and there travel down to the south coast to face Jay Sadler’s Portsmouth side who are coming of a disappointing derby defeat to rivals Southampton . Blues are playing catch up has there game against Newcastle United was postponed cause of the weather and are on the same points has Bristol City but are still second cause of goal difference so everything to play for from now until the end of the season but it starts on Saturday evening.
MATCH PREVIEW
Blues are coming of a 6-2 win over Hull City Ladies in the fourth round of the Adobe’s Women’s FA Cup goals from Chelsea Cornet Lily Crosthwaite a first goal in a Blues shirt for Lotta Lindstrom Veatriki Sarri and two more debutants scoring for Blues in Shanade Hopcroft & Asato Miyagawa got Blues into the fifth round of the FA Cup who now play Chatham Town at home on the 22nd of February at StAndrews@KnightheadPark at 14:00pm unless times change. Blues want to keep this form going into the league and now we have strength in depth with the great news that Lily Agg is in first team training now after her ACL injury. And we also brought in another transfer in midfield Wilma Leidhammar who the club brought for a record transfer fee.
For Jay’ Sadlers Pompey side it’s been a difficult year for them there are in the bottom two but do have a chance of getting out of the relegation zone if there beat us on Sunday there can move up the table to eighth place. There are coming of a difficult south coast derby losing 0-4 to bitter rivals Southampton but at home there are better picking up points against Crystal Palace and leaders Charlton Athletic. Another disappointing thing for Jay is Arsenal cutting the loan spell of Jessie Gale who now has gone loan to Bristol City. The only piece of business Pompey has done so far has brought in Bristol City’s Jesse Woolley on a permanent deal but need to do more and that to keep their WSL2 status.
MY THREE PLAYERS TO LOOK OUT FOR
My first player I’m going to pick is someone who has scored against us in November in Megan Hornsby who is Pompey’s top scorer with five goals and assisting on always has been a top player whenever I have seen her.
My second is Ella Rutherford who Isa talent forward who has already assisted twice this season and has a great eye for goal and are defence needs to be wary of her.
And my third is Tia Primmer a talent player who was at Blackburn then made the move down to the south coast she has got great technique ability.
LAST TIME WE MET
We met back in November at StAndrews@KnightheadPark where Blues won 5-2
