Blues hopes of getting back to the WSL at the first attempt are all but over after losing a two nil lead to a battling Charlton Athletic side who had a never say die attitude. After going two nil down the Addicks fought back with a great second half performance, for blues its same old same old. I believe that some of it goes to the coaching staffs the decision to take off Charlie Devlin & Siobhan Wilson in the 72nd Minute. The team appeared to have lost their aggression and looked like we were holding on for the win which you cant do in the Championship.

FIRST HALF

Blues after last weeks dramatic ending against Blackburn Rovers started of where their left off with the inform Jade Pennock’s shot which was deflected off Ashley Hodson into the hands off Sian Rodgers.

Blues should have taken the lead in the 18th minute when the Scottish maestro Christie Murray’s free kick was not claimed from Rodgers and Gemma Lawley fired it over the bar. Then it was the Addicks turn to the attack the blues goal when former Blues player Freda Ayisi tried an outrageous chip, her shot though went over Lucy Thomas’s bar in the 23rd minute .

Charlton caught Blues out when there were playing out of the back but Melissa Johnson’s shot was saved by Lucy Thomas three minutes later.

Then the breakthrough for Blues came in the 35th minute when Charlton couldn’t clear the ball and it came to Jade Pennock who’s finish was cool and clam. Jade placed it passed Sian Rodgers to make it her seventh goal of the season and more importantly make it 1-0 for the girls in royal blue.

5 minutes later it could have been another brace for Super Jade Pennock but her header was easily gathered up by Rodgers.

Charlton could have equalised before the half-time whistle when Beth Roe who attempt to chip Lucy Thomas again but it was tipped over the bar.

HALF TIME BLUES 1-0 CHARLTON

SECOND HALF

Blues doubled the lead in the 53rd minute when Murray got another assisted when her Corner goes into the back box and Fantastic Captain Louise Quinn got her 5th of the season to double the lead 2-0 .

It was going all so well for Blues but yes this is Blues two minutes later the Addick’s got one back from Beth Roe’s deflected shot to make it 2-1. In the 68th minute Blues Jamie Finn whipped a ball into the box but Mia Ross put’s it behind for a corner.

Eleven minutes from time Charlton got a fully deserved Equalizer from a superb break down the middle of the park with Lois Roche she shift it to the left and Melissa Johnson is their to finish it off to make it super come back from the addicks. They could have won it with another former bluenose Emily Simpkins shot just went past the post two minutes before the 90 .

Blues last chance come from a corner but it was dealt with from Sian Rodgers.

FULL TIME BLUES 2-2 CHARLTON

MY THOUGHTS

A great game but its not about that at this time of the season, its about winning and both sides would have been annoyed with not getting the three points. Positives’ for blues is the attacking play with Charlie & Ashley along with Shivs pace causing problems. The negative is playing out from the back when we look so uncomfortable. Lucy Thomas’s distribution was also poor. It looks like both teams are staying in the Championship .
