SOUTHAMPTON WOMEN V BLUES WOMEN PREVIEW
Blues travel down to the south coast this Sunday for a first for the women in blue that there will be playing at St Mary’s Stadium for a 14:00 kick off time.
There will be a lot of familiar faces in the Southampton and I’m not just talking about the head coach in Remi Allen. Allen in the summer window has brought in former blues players in fan favourite in Tara Bourne and former goalkeeper in Fran Stenson both from Sheffield United.
Southampton last season finished above Blues with 39 points winning thirteen and losing nine under head coach Marieanne Spacey-Cale in the summer she decided to step down and move into a Director of Women’s Football Role for the saints and appointed former Blues hero in Remi Allen on the 12th of July. Which in my opinion will be a great appointment for the fans and Southampton in the long term.
Southampton have picked up ten points in their first five games only conceding two goals and scoring eleven and fans were ecstatic over the win over local rivals Portsmouth last weekend beating them 0-5 the only defeat there suffered this season was a disappointing 0-1 lost to Blackburn Rovers. For Blues it was back-to-back wins over Blackburn Rovers and a hard-earned Friday night victory at Shefield United winning 1-2 with a late Simone Magill penalty to put Blues on top of the league. And also, a huge congratulations to Lucy Quinn who picked up the Septembers Championship’s player of the month for the second time.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
We have to start with the top scorer in the league in Rianna Dean who has scored five goals in five with a goal conversion of 63 percent we have to be on are game to keep her quiet.
Then next player I have choose is Molly Pike also has had a great start to the season scoring two and assisting two also.
And my last player I will go for is another former Blues player in Chloe Peplow always has a bit of quality in her and returned from injury at the weekend against Portsmouth.
