THE GIRLS IN ROYAL BLUE GAVE IT THERE ALL BUT IT WAS TOO LITTLE TOO LA

Yet again it is what could have been Blues Women have set another season in the Women’s Championship after coming back from 0-2 down to earn a 2-2 draw but it wasn’t good enough and London City Lionesses are the first fully independent club to get promoted into the WSL and congratulations to them.  Amy made two changes bringing in Gemma Lawley and Yuri back into the side.

FIRST HALF

An indirect freekick from Harrison Murray was played towards the back post, where Simone Magill headed back across goal where Emily van Egmond was positioned she was about to get her head into the net but a fantastic clearance from a London City Lionesses to deny Blues the lead in  the thirteenth minute.

The first big chance for the Lionesses was when Isobel Goodwin brushed off Rebecca Mckenna and run into the box and her shot went wide of the post.

In the final ten minutes of the half the leaders were coming into the game a lot stronger one of the best opportunities there had was from a corner which rebounded to Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah whose shot was cleared of the line amazingly from Rebecca Holloway to keep it 0-0.

A couple of moments later the lionesses were so close to taking the lead when Isobel Goodwin was played through between Lawley and Cooke placed it into the bottom corner but a wonderful save from Adrianna Franch who tipped it away for a corner.

SECOND HALF

The first opportunity of the second half was the opening goal for the visitors and what a goal it was from former Blues trainee Isobel Goodwin who was given space to allow to run without being close down & riffled a wonderful shot into the top corner the goal that the lionesses wanted and over the balance of play there deserve.

But Blues came back with an immediate response when as Choe Yuri went on a fabulous run who found Christie Harrison-Murray whose volley was saved from Emily Orman.

But ten minutes later a sucker punch when the Lionesses doubled the lead when a corner found an unmarked Chanelle Boye-Hlorkah’s  to head home to give the Lionesses a 0-2 lead and were looking like Champions and making the Lionesses fans go crazy.

But one thing about this Blues side that I loved there don’t know when there are beaten and there was hope in the stadium when the girls in royal blue pulled a goal back just after the hour mark when Orman couldn’t get hold of the ball and headed across goal and found Van Egmond to put it in the net to make it 1-2 and need two more goals to get the championship.

The next chance of the game was for the Lionesses in the 80th minute when Goodwin shot was well saved from AD.

But in the 85th there was hope when a brilliant ball from sub-Lucy Quinn found Cho who volleyed it in past Orman a wonderful goal.

Then in stoppage time a Akpan delivered a ball into the box and found the head of Simone Magill who headed straight at the goalkeeper.

The last chance of the game came for Blues when a long ball into the box was headed on from Louise Quinn onto the arm of a London City Lionesses players arm, but Referee Stacey Fullicks wave the protest away.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME

First of all, congratulations to London City Lionesses and deserved to get promoted and in my opinion there deserve to go up. For Blues yet again it’s a case of what could have been yet again, but Amy Merricks I think will get it right if she is given the time 90 percent of this season has been amazing but the one result I think cost Blues was the 1-3 defeat to Bristol City I think that game cost us the Championship . There will be alot of work going on in the summer with 18 players out of contact some will stay some will leave but you need to bring in the right players not just on the technically level but the right mentally to the likes of Lily Agg Lucy Quinn Martha Harris need to be kept on to help us get back into the WSL.  Also, it was great to see such a great crowd for this game over 8,000 watching a women’s game I have followed blues for thirteen years I thought I never see the day like this well done to everyone involved.

MY PLAYER OF THE MATCH

I have to go for Isobel Goodwin a fantastic performance from the Lionesses forward and deserved her golden boot award.
