THE ROBINS OUTCLASSED A VERY POOR BLUES

Blues second game of 2025 was like the second game of 2024 but like are lost to Watford Bristol City were comfortable winners and Blues didn’t have any comeback goals from Lexi Lloyd-Smith with her eighth goal of the season in the third minute a Ffion Morgan strike who got her fourth goal of the season in the 39th minute and just after half time former Blues player Jamie-Lee Napier finisher the game off with a great finish. Blues are still top, but London City Lionesses have a game in hand and the next game is against Portsmouth . But Bristol City and Stephen Kirby fully deserve this victory were there where when he came in and now on the same number of points has Blues a phenomenal turn around. For Blues there needs to be a reaction ASAP under Amy when we had a rubbish result this season are reaction has been brilliant there need to do it again to have a chance to go back into the WSL.

FIRST HALF

The first chance of the game was gifted to the visitors when a mix up in the back line found Lexi Lloyd-Smith who rounded Lucy Thomas and fired it into an empty net in the third minute.

Blues first chance came in the fourth minute when Martha Harris shot went wide of Fran Bentley goal.

Then a huge chance for Blues in the 15th minute when Lee Geum-Min did some great work into the box and found Simone Magill who turned, and her shot was saved by Fran Bentley.

Then in the 26th minute Tegan Mcgowan shot was saved by Bentley.

But then in the 38th minute a sucker punch when yet again Blues failed to clear their lines from a cross from the dangerous Lexi Lloyd-Smith the ball came to Ffion Morgan and finished it into the top corner pass Lucy Thomas.

The last chance of the half came for Blues when Martha Harris shot went over the bar in the 42nd minute.

HALF TIME BLUES WOMEN 0-2 BRISTOL CITY WOMEN

SECOND HALF

The first chance of the second half was the third goal for the visitors when a header from Lexi Lloyd-Smith was saved from Thomas but it came to former Bluenose Jamie Lee-Napier and her shot found the net brilliantly for her first goal for the robins and it was game over.

Then in the 58th minute Simone Magill’s effort skimmed the top of the bar.

Then it was Magill again when was just inches away from the top corner in the 88th minute.

Blues finally got on the score sheet in the 92nd minute from a corner form Christie Harrison-Murray and Ellie Mason made it two in two from a header.

The last chance of the game for the robins when a break away with Amalie Thestrup was clean through on goal but couldn’t finish and was saved from Lucy Thomas.

FULL TIME BLUES WOMEN 1-3 BRISTOL CITY

MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME

Bristol City finally get there first win at St Andrews @KnightheadPark and to be fair there never looked in trouble in the last three home games have been really disappointing the F.A Cup lost to Durham then a 0-0 draw against Charlton then todays defeat to Bristol it hasn’t been a good month at St Andrews in terms of results. But you have to give credit to Stephen Kirby’s side and what a transformation it has been for them now a on the same points, but Blues are on top by one goal. And also, you have to remember London City have a game in hand and their next game in the league is against Portsmouth. For Blues it was a disappointing performance I don’t think the line-up was right I would have given Libby Smith the start with Simone Magill in the ten I think we look slow when Lee Geum-Min is in the team we needed pace to undo the Bristol City back line today but it was slow and that probably helped Bristol City in there defending. But to be fair the majority of the team had an off day today if you not committed you will end up with a performance like this. And if you want to get out of this league you have to be consistent for the majority of the season. I think Amy needs help with some transfers with the other teams strengthening with London City Lionesses doing everything there can to get Promoted into the WSL for the first time. We need reinforcements to help Amy & the girls losing Lily Agg & Louise Quinn are huge blows for the team yes finally some are coming back with Lucy Quinn last week and Rebeca Mckenna back in the squad today and coming on as a substitute in the 69th minute is good news but we need more not to fill in the gaps but we need quality to help the team and when we do get injuries we got the cover and quality to replace them.

MY PLAYER OF THE MATCH

I have to go for Jamie Lee-Napier she was quality to the and the former Blues player getting her first for Bristol today a proper leadership performance from her.

UP NEXT
