THE TOONS RUTHERLESSNESS GAVE BLUES THERE FIRST DEFEAT AT HOME

A double header of football on Sunday brought a mixture of emotion at St Andrews @Knighthead park. Blues men winning 1-0 in FA Cup and celebrating Diwali was then brought crashing down as Becky Langley’s Newcastle United got all three points ewiyh goals from Shania Hayles in the 11th minute and Isabella Sibley in the 70th minute killed any hope of Blues getting anything.

Like I said in my preview the battle wasn’t just on the pitch it was off it to in Amy and Becky in too coaches I respect and admire but Becky has got one over Amy, it wasn’t just about the two goals it was how the toon killed the game of and there fully deserved the victory.
For Blues it was something that I been proud of under Amy and that was our ruthlessness and that’s why we are sitting on top of the league on goal difference . We were getting into great positions, but we were either hitting the crossbar, post or firing over, but it’s needs to chance for next week for another huge game against London City Lionesses.
FIRST HALF
The first chance of the half came for Blues when some great work from Ivanna Fuso who plays it into Agg but couldn’t keep her effort down in the eight minute.
But three minutes the visitors took the league with some great play from Beth Lumsden pass the defender and crossed into the inform Shania Hayles who placed it pass Lucy Thomas to get her six goal of the season.
In the 15th minute Ivanna Fuso intercepted a ball, but her shot was saved from Claudia Moan.
In the 18th minute the magpies had a freekick on the edge of the box it was hit by Beth Lumsden and was well saved from Lucy Thomas.
In the 21st minute Lumsden had another free kick but this time it was over the bar.
29 minutes played and Lily Agg had a shot that was deflected onto the crossbar for a corner, Agg was in the action again this time her header was cleared of the line from Charlotte Potts

The last chance of the first half was for the visitors when Lumsden played a good ball into Lois Joel whose shot was well saved from Thomas.

SECOND HALF
At half time Amy must have given them a rocket because in the second half there come out a played really well the first chance of the second half came from a Christie Harrison-Murray’s corner found Tegan McGowen but her effort went agonisingly wide of the post in the 48th minute.
Blues were on top then in the 50th minute Ivanna Fuso cross deflected onto the cross bar.
Then in the 53rd minute it was Fuso again but this time she was denied with a brilliant stop over the crossbar from Claudia Moan.
Blues were turning the screw and Fuso was in on the action again when Rebecca Mckenna low ball come to Fuso, but her effort went over from close range.
We hit the post again when a brilliant delivery from Harrison-Murray was headed onto the post by Neve Herron.
And then an unbelievably strike from Tegan Mcgowen rattled the crossbar in the 66th minute.
Then in the 70th the killer blow when Beth Lumsden shot was tipped brilliant onto the bar by Lucy Thomas, but the ball felled to Isabella Sibley who put it pass Lucy Thomas.
In the 82nd minute Deanna Cooper volley was saved from Thomas.
The last chance of the game was Joel’s shot blocked brilliant from Gemma Lawley.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME
It was going to come but how it come was the disappointing thing especially that first 25 minutes was not the Blues I seen this year but in my opinion the line-up was wrong I think the girls who went on international break looked tired especially Rebecca Mckenna after the extra time win over Croatia. But when we went through are finishing boots wont on which have praised so much of the players & coaching staff yes everyone has an off day but that first 25 minutes can’t happen again especially with the ambitions of the club and players. I would love to have seen Shiv given an opportunity and Ellie Mason has well for Mckenna could have been a better option. And obviously missing big Louise Quinn was a kick in the teeth. But on a positive note, great to see Jamie Finn back and one of are academy players made it into the matchday squad in the talented Lucy Day.
MY PLAYER OF THE MATCH
I have to go for Beth Lumsden she was all over the place and set up the first goal a great performance.
UP NEXT
It’s first versus second next weekend has we travel to London City Lionesses for a 14:00 kick off
KRO STEPHEN GILL
Thank you again Stephen for a detailed blog. The result was disappointing but a little rub of the green in the second half could have brought something from a very tight game .
The season is far from finished and Blues Women still have time to recover from this loss
