THE TWO SIDES OF BLUES KEEPS US TOP OF THE LEAGUE AFTER BEATING THE LIONESSES

A performance that would have made any Blues fan happy was seen on Sunday afternoon at the Hayes Lane in Bromley, as Amy and the girls kept hold of the top spot in the Championship after beating Jocelyn Precheur London City Lionesses side in a game that saw both sides of Blues. In the first half our quality really shone through, in the second half we were gritty and determined to travel up to the second city with those three points. Amy made one change with  Cho back into the starting line up .

FIRST HALF

The first chance of the game came for Blues when Mckenna’s right footed shot from outside of the box went just wide .

Then in the 9th minute Lily Agg’s header went over the bar, but Fuso couldn’t keep the ball in.

The in the 18th Agg had another opportunity but her shot went over the bar.

Then in the 19th minute it was Mcgowen shot but this time her shot was saved from Orman.

Then in the 26th minute Blues took the lead from a Christie Harrison-Murray corner and Simone Magill shot hits the crossbar and it rebounded onto the head of Gemma Lawley who guides it into the back of the net 0-1 a great start.

In the 39th minute Christie Harrison-Murray shot was too high.

The next chance of the game was the second goal when a brilliant ball from Rebecca Holloway landed onto the head of Neve Herron whose header rebounder of the crossbar for her second of the season.

In the 52nd minute a corner from the Lionesses was headed over Isobel Goodwin.

Then in the 64th minute Isobel Goodwin out strengths Neve Herron for a one on one with Thomas but a great save from Thomas kept 0-2 to the blues.

Then in the 66th minute Holloway broke up play and went on a run but her shot went wide.

Then in the 70th minute Becks Holloway had another chance in the box but this time it was saved from Emily Orman

Then in the 79th minute Blues should have killed the game off with some great play from Simone Magill into Lily Agg whose shot was brilliant cleared off the line by Teyah Goldie.

In the 83rd minute Goodwin had a tame shot which was picked up by Thomas .

But the Lionesses did get the goal towards the end of the game with former blues player Georgia Brougham tapping home from a free kick from Kosovare  Asllani in the 86th minute but the blues hold on for a magnificent win down in Bromley.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME

An unbelievable performance from the women in blue against a really physical side in the Lionesses I think in that first half how we handle the occasion was amazing and we set the tone of the game which was the important thing after last week’s defeat  to Newcastle United which was a disappointing first twenty minutes Amy wanted to the intensity and quality in that first half and by god the players delivered goals from Gemma Lawley and Neve Herron got us all the three points the only disappointing we couldn’t kill the game off in the first half. But how the team kept their composure during that first half was commendable especially the treatment former Lionesses player Lily Agg got during the game, and you can understand her frustrations during the game. Even though the lionesses got a goal back I think we were really comfortable and deserved are win. To me following blues women since 2013 this performance was one of the best performances from a blues women’s team I ever seen. The discipline of the side and quality on and off the ball was really impressive to see now we have to see that in every game which will be the challenge for Amy and the team. Also, it was great to see Louanne Worsey coming onto the pitch hopefully she will get a start in one of the cup matches coming up.

MY PLAYER OF THE MATCH

I have to go for Christie Harrison-Murray her set piece delivery is getting better & better also her passing was top notch today and captain the side brilliantly yes at times it was physical, but Christie has always been a clamming presence and always has got the best for the team.

UP NEXT

Are next game will be in the League Cup against follow Championship side Bristol City on the 24th of November and it will be a 15:00 kick off.

Huge thanks to Laura Burton for all of the great images
