SUNDERLAND WSL2 PREVIEW

Blues will play the game in hand on Wednesday night against Mel Reay’s Sunderland side who are coming of a 1-1 draw against rivals Newcastle United. Blues are coming off a 0-1 win against Bristol City at Ashton Gate with Wilma Liedhammar getting the vital goal in the 69th minute to give Blues the win there needed to not just close the gap on Charlton more importantly cemented second spot with Palace on are tails.

MATCH PREVIEW

Blues need to keep this momentum going  and put pressure on the Addick’s but it won’t be easy on Wednesday against Mel Reay’s Lasses side who want to finish the season has high has possible we need to be aware of New Zealand  international Katie Kitching who has been  in fine form scoring six times this season another person in fine form is Emily Scarr scoring also six times and assisting three times this season and will be a mine threat  for the lasses and are defence needs to be on their game. On Sunday it was great to see that we grinded the result out and everyone was fighting for the cause the only downside was the loss of Adrianna Franch but we do have a great back up in Lucy Thomas so lets not hope its a long term injury for AD.

For the Lasses it’s going to be a season of what could have been I picked them at the start of the season fighting for the third place play-off spot with  a number of teams I think there are not far off fighting for promotion it’s just consistence for them losing Kiera Barry in the January window didn’t help either.  But I think with Mel and one or two important signings I think there can challenge next season. On Sunday the lasses got a well-deserved point over the neighbours Newcastle United. Sunderland took the lead from Katy Watson but was cancelled out from Oona Sevenius, but the Lasses grabbed a deserve point in front of 10,156 at the Stadium Of Light. But one player that did impress me on her senior debut was Chloe Paxton her composer on the ball was exceptional and her first game was a derby against Newcastle she handle herself brilliantly.

I think on Wednesday it will be a tight game both teams will go out for the win and hopefully it will be 2-1 for us but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Lasses will get something out of the game.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

My three players to watch are

Emily Scarr her pace and her finishing will cause any defence problems in this league  she has already scored six times this season and assisting twice.

My second is another forward but creates a lot in Katy Watson who has been brilliant this season she has assisted four times and scored three times.

And my third is Katie Kitching the New Zealand international has had a great season scoring six goals for the lasses and has the quality to change any game.
