Blues on Sunday made it two wins out of two at St Andrews @ Knighthead Park. Blues beat newly promoted Portsmouth 4-0 on a mixture of emotions at the being of the game there was a moment of applause for the late Maddy Cusack who played for Blues under Mark Skinner .

On the pitch the fast start that I wanted from the last two seasons has come with a plumb are ruthlessness in the first two home games scoring nine goals in two games and more importantly we haven’t conceded a goal in any of the three games . It was a day to remember for Lee Geum-Min who scored a brace with a brilliant header in the 53rd minute and in the 67th minute a brilliant strike which flew into the top corner. Also, someone I want to see getting the goals she deserves but works so tirelessly is Libby Smith with a great finish into the bottom corner I think under Amy we will see the best of Libby.

FIRST HALF

The first chance of the game came for Blues when captain Cho’s cross found Agg whose header went wide of the post in the sixth minute.

In the 11th minute Portsmouth had their first opportunity when Sophie Quirk cross from deep found Meg Hornby, but her header went just wide.

But in the twentieth minute Blues took the lead when the impressive Tegan McGowen found Libby Smith who turned inside the area and fired into the bottom corner past Hannah Haughton a great finish.

Haughton was called into action again when in the 38th minute a Lucy Quinn free kick was heading to the top corner but was brilliantly saved from Hannah Haughton a terrific save.

The last chance of the first half came for the visitors when Meg Hornby surges then the left-hand side pulling it back to Georgie Freeland whose low shot was blocked brilliantly from Rebecca Holloway.

SECOND HALF

Amy Merricks made a change at half time bringing on Lee Geum-Min on for her debut for Lily Agg.

And in the fifty-third minute Lee Geum-Min made herself a hit with Blues fans when Lucy Quinn brilliant ball into the box was headed brilliantly home from Min to make it two nil for the girls in blue.

Then in the fifty-eighth minute a Hornby corner was met by Riva Casley, but her header went inches wide of the post.

Lee Geum-Min made it a brace on her debut when Fuso rolled it back to Min who placed it into the top corner two quality finishes and what a debut she was having.

Then in the 70th minute the visitors could have gotten a goal back when Meg Hornby raced through but her effort was easily saved from Lucy Thomas.

Then three minutes later Hornby had another chance, but her shot was saved from Thomas.

Then in the 92nd minute Blues got the fourth goal of the game when Lucy Quinn’s corner was header home by Louise Quinn .

The last chance of the game came for the visitors when Nicole Barrett wins the ball back and her effort rattled the crossbar.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE GAME

An outstanding performance from Amy and the girls yes, we should beat a newly promoted team but that’s not always the case like last year we lost to Watford 2-0 after Christmas break. I said at the beginning of the blog we needed a fast start to the season and my god Amy, and the girls have truly delivered . It is a performance that the late Maddy Cusack would have been proud of full of fight and desire and more important quality which Maddy had all that in abundance. Also, the quality of goals is sensational especially the two goals from Min I was absolutely gutted when Charlie and Jade left the club but the quality their brought in is unreal. Well, done to Amy and the girls.

MY PLAYER OF THE MATCH

Yes I could go for Lee Geum-Min, but I have to go for Neve Herron she was unbelievable going forward and her defensive duties as well a tremendous start to the season for Neve.
