BLUES WOMEN V DURHAM PREVIEW

Blues finally have lost their top spot after London City Lionesses won their game in hand over Newcastle United with goals from Isobel Goodwin and Sofia Jakobsson got the Lionesses the win there needed to climb above Blues. But on Friday night the Lionesses went five points clear and a better goal difference of plus four after beating Southampton 4-1 with a brilliant hattrick from Isobel Goodwin and Chantelle Boyle-Hlorkah getting the another Lionesses goal.   With Blues drawing against Charlton 1-1 the girls in royal blue have to win every game to get into the WSL that’s easy said than done with are running. With games against Durham an away trip to Newcastle and hopefully a last day shoot out with top of the table London City Lionesses but there is a lot of Football to play until then. 

MATCH PREVIEW

Blues come up against a side in Durham who have also are one of are bogy sides who we have not beaten in are last three games including the disappointing FA Cup defeat in December which we never shown up for.  And also, Durham have got money in their pockets with Patrick and Frances Connolly, from Hartlepool, who have acquired a 25% stake in Championship side Durham Women FC following a change in ownership and fair play to them. But someone who their need to keep hold of in my opinion is their gaffer in Adam Furness who I don’t think gets the credit he deserves from the media and fans in the Championship I think he has done a remarkable job with teams like us and London City spending money to get back into WSL could this be a fairy tale that gets the Wildcats into the WSL things like this is why we love football but being a Blues fan let’s hope not. 

For Blues are looking to chase down London City and not drop any more points if so, that will be the end of their title hopes like the players and Amy and I say there is no excuses everything is there for them the facilities the recovery program yes, we have had injuries but since we come down to the Championship But we have had the biggest squad since are relegation from the WSL so there is no excuses and things like what happened at Charlton when you cant kill a game off will come back to haunt us and that’s what happened when Mel Filis 91st minute equalizer cost Blues those two points but it is still in are hands all we have to  is win are remaining three games and we are there if you ask me if on the final day of the season we are still have a chance to get promoted then I bite your hands off right now.

Last time out like i said it was a game of two halves with us dominating the first half and should have been put to bed with Lee Geim-Min getting her fourth of the season with a great finish but couldn’t hold on with Mel Filis equalizing in the 91st minute to give Karen Hills side a well-deserved point.

For the Wildcats it was six of the best has the thumped Portsmouth 6-0 which included a brilliant hat-trick from Aimee Jessica Claypole which keeps their chance of Promotion very much alive.

We met back in December in the third round of the FA Cup when we got knockout by the wildcats when Grace Ayre’s scored her first senior goal with a goal from the edge of the area.

BLUES WOMENS U21S

And we have to say a huge Congratulations to Birmingham City’s U21s who beat Leicester City 4-3 in an epic game in the PGA Cup Final at Loughborough goals from a brace for player of the match Mille Pullen and other goals from Lucy Powis & Emily Fitzpatrick finished the game of for Blues and Captain fantastic Layla Banaras lifted the trophy up in the air and made it a wonderful day  for the U21s who beat Arsenal and  Chelsea on the way to the final a great start for Georgia Clarke Blues career who came to the club a couple weeks ago from Peterborough United. But also, huge credit should also go to Liam Parkes who guided the team to the final a wonderful achievement by everyone from the club.

WHATS HAPPENING ON SUNDAY

You can still drink alcohol inside the stadium this Sunday has well for the remaining home games of the season.  Also, there will be things to eat and drink outside the stadium and you can buy your matchday programmes from the club shop or ticket office see you there.
