The heart, the Passion but not the result
BCFC Ladies on Tilton Talk, Sponsored by Garrison Coffee Company
Sunday brought a must win game to the Blues ladies again fellow strugglers Leicester City. After a nervy start by Blues they began to take some control but with very few chances.
The 3-4-3 formation didn’t suit Blues and the pressure from Leicester paid of in the 26th minute when the defences was split with Hollyway and Scott unable to clear the ball away. The attack continued and eventually Ramsey brought down the Leicester city player for a penalty and a straight red card. Lucy Jones came in for her WSL debut but her first touch was to pick the ball out of the net after Jessica Sigsworth scored the penalty.
Leicester continued to apply pressure and in the 37th minute the foxes made it two with a corner going straight in with blues again falling asleep from Jemma Purfield. The 1st half whistle could not come quick enough and the players left the pitch heads down and us fans hoping for a second half miracle.
The second 45.
Blues in the second showed a bit more with Jade Pennock heading just wide and other chances being created. Leicester were not as clinical as the 1st half and squandered a couple of great chances and hitting the bar before Blues captain Louise Quinn headed in on the far post from a great cross by Sarri. Blues continued to push but unfortunately it was to little to late.
Leicester deserved to beat and after strengthening in the window this could be seen.I said in my last blog we needed to strengthen in the centre Back to help l
Lawley and Quinn an failure to do this has cost us dearly .
What’s next you may ask?
Blues have been in this situation far to many times and with no support to help the team then our top fight status looks to be in jeopardy. Its going to be a tough ask 5 points off Leicester it looks like our time is up .
The thing I fear the most is if we do get relegated then it could signal the end of the women’s team. When I went to my first game in 2013 i hoped it would last forever, watching blues smashing Russian side FK Zorkiy Krasnagorsk in the champions league helped to show the great standard we had achieved and I was so impressed with the women’s game. I was so excited for this season when Scott Booth was named with his reputation in the women’s game but things did not go to plan and he was relived of his role and replaced by Darren. I hope we can continue to show the passion and prode the team did in the second half of todays game and if we go down we go down fighting.
Lets keep on supporting the girls in royal blue

An accurate assessment of the game Stephen.
However, the sending off of Emily Ramsey was key to the result of this game. I always believed that if a goal keeper brought down an opposition player in the penalty area that the sanction is a red card only if the goalkeeper is the last player preventing a goal. Otherwise the sanction is only a yellow card. The penalty would have been awarded anyway if the referee deemed that Emily fouled the opposition Player.
I’ve not given up yet and I’m sure Lucy Quinn and the team haven’t either. KRO !
