A really disappointing night in Southampton and frustrating performance from the girls in Royal Blue yet again it was about what if’s then clinical finishing which cost us the game against a very good Southampton team.

Blues yet again started well with Lucy Quinn shot went wide in the 4th minute. Yet again Quinn almost gave Blues the lead in the 7th minute when her shot just went wide. Blues were in control and yet again Lucy Quinn had a chance some brilliant play from Wilson and a great cross and Quinn’s header was deflected behind for a corner.

Then it was Jade Pennock’s turn to have a chance when Quinny’s ball over the job and her shot was saved comfortable from Kayla Rendell in the 25th minute.

Southampton first chance came in the 30th minute with former bluenose Katie Wilkinson was played through but her shot went wide. Blues next chance was in the 35th minute from a corner when Gemma Lawley’s header went well wide. Southampton were finally getting back into the game and in the 37th minute Leeta Rutherford shot was saved from Lucy Thomas. The last chance of the half went to Southampton with Ella Morris shot went over the bar in the 40th minute.

Second half yet again blues started off well when Harriett Scott whipped a ball in for Lucy Quinn’s header was just wide.

Then yet again Jade Pennock was played through but a last-ditch challenge from Megan Collett went for a corner in the 57th minute. Blues looked nervous and in the 58th minute Mollie Green was dispossessed, and Southampton should have scored from Ella Morris.

Southampton were getting their second wind and in the 58th minute Lexi Lloyd Smith had her shot went over the bar. Blues came back into it with a corner which Louise Quinn volleyed over the bar in the 61st minute. Then a minute later Finn had a shot which went over the bar.

Southampton had a free kick with Wilkinson shot just went wide in the 67th minute.

Southampton were looking like the team that was going to get the goal and 6th minutes before the end of the game their got the goal with Lucia Kendell with a shot which Lucy Thomas should do better with saying that Saints deserved it for their second half performance.

The last chance for blues came from a corner from Wilson with Gemma Lawley heading just wide of the goal in the 88th minute.

FULL TIME SAINTS 1 BLUES 0 – THOUGHTS ON THE GAME

Yet again blues should have won this game in the first half with the number of chances the created we need to be ruthless in the final third some of our play is fantastic in the transition from defence to attack. But other times it can be our downfall playing from the back can course us problems a couple of times we almost gave it away from Lucy Tomas we need to know when to do it and when not to. Are finishing needs to improve we need to be ruthless and decisive. Another positive was Tara Bourne coming back from injury for Mollie Green we need are defence back asap and Tara back is big boost for us. Like I said when we got relegated from the WSL we need a strong start to the championship we are already six points behind Bristol City the only team without losing a game in the division blues need to show what their a made of being consistent and ruthless in the final third the next two games are huge for us with Durham and Sheffield United coming to St Andrews we need to get 6 points to keep in track of the promotion race.
